Introduction to Windermere

What if I want to live on the lake? How far away is downtown? What if I want access to a Trader Joe's walkable downtown? What am I thinking? It's Windermere. The answer is Windermere.

I remember when I was looking online to move to Orlando, I knew I wanted to be close to Disney, but not too close. The things that I found were Celebration and Winter Garden, but a lot of people told me, "Check out Windermere." Today, I'm going to show you two very different houses: one older and updated close to downtown, and the other farther outside downtown, gated and gorgeous as well.

Living in Windermere

One thing to think about if you're moving to Windermere is where in Windermere you want to live. The downtown area is technically the only part that's the town, while the rest is unincorporated Orange County. Downtown has lakes, older houses, and plenty to do. The suburban area has newer houses built over the past 25 years, townhouses, and modern homes, but not the charm of downtown.

Windermere is popular due to its proximity to everything: 20 minutes from Universal, 30 minutes from Disney, 10 minutes from Trader Joe's and Restaurant Row, 30–35 minutes from downtown Orlando, and the same from the airport. Your lifestyle is also important—golf communities, lake homes, and proximity to theme parks are all available.

Real Estate in Windermere

Windermere has a wide variety of home types: newer townhouses, rear entry lots, single-family homes, and the most expensive real estate in Central Florida, with a highest sale of $35 million. Homes range widely in style and price depending on your preferences.

For community, Windermere has a farmers market, food truck rallies, 5Ks, and other events built over its 100-year history. Schools are A-rated, with both public and private options, adding to the appeal of the area.

Downtown Windermere Home

The first house is downtown, blocks from shops, coffee shops, the brewery, and the Grove. Almost 4,200 square feet, built in 1978, updated over the years, and sits on nearly half an acre.

The layout is split-level, with vaulted ceilings, natural light, a gas fireplace, and a seamless flow from dining to kitchen. The kitchen has a greenhouse push-out for extra storage, an island with a prep sink, and a six-burner stove. The primary suite has a seating area, walk-in closet, morning porch, and ensuite with dual sinks, jetted tub, and walk-in shower.

Additional features include two large bedrooms, a gym/bedroom, side yard with astroturf, and a pool area with privacy, a cage, and space for entertaining. At $1.65 million, it offers a rare opportunity in downtown Windermere.

Gated Community Home

The second home is in Lake Butler Sound, a gated community with under 300 homes. Just under 6,000 square feet, five bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, Tuscan Mediterranean style updated with timeless finishes.

The layout includes a study, primary suite downstairs, formal living and dining, travertine floors, and woodwork throughout. The main area overlooks the kitchen with two-tone cabinets, new modern lighting, ZLine appliances, matte black hardware, and a back room/parlor with wet bar and additional family space.
